Most people hesitate to pay through credit card fearing its misuse. They have a valid point. But, it’s not always right.
If you pay a little bit attention to some points while paying through credit card, both for offline payments and online payments, you don’t need to worry at all.
Credit card payment through Swiping Or, Offline:
Offline means paying bills using credit card in shopping malls, restaurants, hospitals, etc.
If you don’t want to pay the bills with cash, always prefer credit card over debit card for offline payments. The reason is, when you pay the bills through your debit card, money will be deducted immediately from your bank account.
If you find any misuse or over the amount which merchant swipes, getting that money back is a difficult task. You need to raise the issue with concerned bank and keep on running after them. You need to waste a lot of time to get your money back. The merchant will say “sorry”, give you a free advice and ask you to follow up with the bank.
If you use your credit card to pay bills, the respective details will be updated in your online credit card statement within 1 or 2 days. So, if you find anything suspicious, you can speak to the call center of the respective bank to resolve the issue.
Once you mention it’s suspicious, it’s the bank’s headache to clear the issue because you won’t pay the bill unless you get a clear confirmation from the bank. Moreover, there will be enough time for you to check your credit card statement and the respective billing due date. Since there is no mistake from your side, you don’t need to worry about late payment fees, extra charges etc. When you speak with credit card call center about payment, they can remove THAT extra amount.
The main difference between debit card payment and credit card payment is how you pay your bill.
If it is debit card, your money will be deducted first, and then you check the statement.
If it is credit card, you check your statement first and then pay the bill.
Credit Card Payment Through Online:
When you purchase any items from online stores [websites], you can pay the bills with debit card, net banking or credit card.
First thing you need to remember is, you should never go for un-popular websites or unknown websites which offer tempting deals. Make sure that, you already know somebody who has already used the same website.
Whenever you want to pay the bills online, make sure that you have 6 digit high security password which will be given to you by your bank or you can generate it immediately while paying the bill. This is also called as OTP [One Time Password].
Below are the things you need to be careful for credit card payments:
- 16 digit credit card number
- Name on your credit card
- CVV number
- Expiry date
- High security password
For security reasons, it is better to save CVV number in some place where you feel it’s highly secure and erase/remove CVV number on your credit card.
